Ann Ellsworth is a versatile soloist, recording artist and collaborative horn player/musician. Her solo playing has been called, “outrageous…splendidly projected,” by the New York Times, and “…as fresh and exalted as Alpine air,” by the Huffington Post. She has recorded six solo albums of new works and arrangements of pieces for horn in mixed ensembles. They can be heard on all streaming platforms and have been called, “dream-like,” “other planetary,” and “musically dangerous” by her colleagues. Using art for social change, Ellsworth likes to take on difficult subjects through music and words, collaborating as a sometimes subversive librettist with composers and performance artists. She has toured internationally, performed with popular artists such as with Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and Diana Ross and can be heard on numerous television theme songs, commercials and movie soundtracks. A published author, her memoir about adopting a group of five high-risk foster kids, “Whelmed,” is distributed by Simon and Schuster. She is a member of Carman Moore’s Skymusic Ensemble and a founding member of the Lawrence Graduate Bayreuth Tuben Quintet and attended the Eastman and Juilliard Schools, with further study in Oslo and St. Petersburg, Russia. She is currently on faculty at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.
