Phillip Koch, oboe and English horn
A native of Iowa, Phillip Koch earned music performance degrees from Northwestern University and the Eastman School of Music, studying with Ray Still and Richard Killmer. He was a member of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra in Norfolk, Virginia for nine seasons under the direction of JoAnn Falletta, and taught oboe as a member of the adjunct faculty of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA for five years. Mr. Koch has participated in the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra under the direction of Leonard Bernstein and Seiji Ozawa, the National Repertory Orchestra, and the Aspen Music Festival. He was a member of the Artist Faculty of the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina for five summers. Since moving back to the Midwest in 2001, Mr. Koch has performed as Principal Oboist of the Waukesha Symphony, Skylight Opera Orchestra, and in performances with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra. He can be heard opposite Wynton Marsalis in a recording of Aaron Copland's "Quiet City" for trumpet, English horn and orchestra on CBS Masterworks. Phil now works by day as a tax accountant with US Bank, and enjoys living in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, with his wife, three children, dog and three cats.
